Belladonna extract comes from the whole herb of Atropa belladonna. It has a long history of use as a medicine, cosmetic, and poison. Functions :
1. Belladonna Extract contains Hyoscyamine,which is used to provide symptomatic relief to various gastrointestinal disorders including spasms, peptic ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, pancreatitis,colic and cystitis.
2. Belladonna Extract has also been used to relieve some heart problems, control some of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, as well as for control of respiratory secretions in palliative care.
Belladonna has been used in folk medicine as a remedy for stomach and abdominal pain, asthma, bronchitis, and muscular pain. Applied externally,Belladonna Extract has been used for gout and ulcers.
In medicinal plasters,Belladonna Extract is currently used to combat intestinal and digestive spasms, excessive perspiration, and bronchial asthma.In homeopathic medicine, Belladonna is considered a remedy for the bulging eyeballs that sometimes accompany an overactive thyroid, as well as a treatment for nerve pain and scarlet fever. Its effectiveness for these problems has not been scientifically verified.
