Echinacea (scientific name: Echinacea purpurea (Linn.) Moench) is a perennial herb of the genus Echinacea in the composite family. 50-150 cm tall, the whole plant has coarse hair, the stem is erect; Leaf margin serrate. Basal leaf sockets or triangular, cauline leaf sockets lanceolate, petiole base slightly holding the stem. Inflorescences capitate, solitary or mostly clustered at the apex, large flowers up to 10 cm in diameter: convex, globose at the center with tubules of orange; Seeds light brown, rind hard. The petals are pale white in color.
Echinacea plants are significantly taller than echinacea narrowleaf.
The root of echinacea echinacea is short and there are many lateral roots and fibrous roots. Echinacea paniculata has long roots and less whiskers and lateral roots. The stems of Echinacea are much branched, and the narrow leaves of Echinacea are mostly unbranched.
Echinacea leaves are mostly ovate or broadly lanceolate, while Echinacea paniculata leaves are mostly long and narrow ovate.
